DIY Coffee Water for Hair Growth

DIY coffee water for hair growth is an effective hair hack to stimulate your scalp, as well as give hair shine and gloss.

It is an easy recipe to make and is an inexpensive way to maintain afro-textured hair.

Why coffee is good for your hair

  1. Coffee helps to lay your cuticles flat promoting the appearance of shiny, healthy hair.
  2. The caffeine in coffee helps prevent balding, thinning and hair loss.
  3. Coffee stimulates the hair follicle promoting growth.
  4. It helps to naturally darken grey hair.

Recommended for

Hair loss, shedding, and breakage.

Negative effects of coffee water on hair growth

  1. Coffee has been known to dry out hair, so make sure that you follow a coffee rinse or leave-in treatment with a moisture regime (using either the LOC or LCO method).
  2. Coffee leaves a permanent stain, so use it accordingly. If you use it as an overnight treatment, make sure that you secure your hair properly to avoid staining your bedding. If used as a leave-in, make sure that your hair is completely dry so that it does not drip onto your top.

Preparation time

10 minutes

Ingredients

  • Caffeinated coffee
  • Warm water

Instructions

  1. Brew two cups of strong coffee and let it cool down.
  2. Transfer it to your application bottle and it is ready to use.

Storage

Store it in the fridge and it should be kept for 1 week. If you do not store it in the fridge, discard it after 2 – 3 days and make another pot.

Usage

  1. You can use it as a pre-poo overnight treatment. Spray it onto your scalp, cover your hair with a shower cap, and then shampoo and condition the next day.
  2. As a leave-in treatment, you can spray it directly onto your scalp 3 to 4 times a week, covering all areas, and then massage it in with the tips of your finger. Follow this with moisture using the LOC or LCO method. Rinse/wash your hair after 2 weeks.
  3. You can use it as a hair rinse. Simply massage it into your scalp as well as spray it generously from root to tips and then massage thoroughly. Put a shower cap over your hair for 20 mins and then rinse off.

NaHaZo tip

Coffee has caffeine in it, so it is not recommended for use on children’s hair. Also, if you want to minimize its drying effect, only apply it on the root and scalp, avoiding your hair strands.

*Allergens

If you are allergic to caffeine, then do not use it as it can get into your bloodstream and can trigger caffeine headaches.
