Do-It-Yourself Hibiscus Oil

Hibiscus oil is an easy and quick DIY that is beneficial for the overall health of your hair, as it strengthens follicles, stops hair loss, stimulates growth, and helps to mask grays.

Preparation time

45 minutes

Ingredients

  • X1 cup of olive oil
  • X4 tablespoon of ground hibiscus powder

Method

  1. Pour the olive oil into a mixing bowl, add the ground hibiscus powder, and then stir to mix.
  2. Using the double boiling method, let the mixture simmer over the heat for at least 25 – 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Then, set it aside to cool.
  3. Once cooled, strain the oil using a strainer or cheesecloth, and then transfer the oil to an applicator bottle. (*Note: make sure that the sieve holes are tiny enough to prevent small particles from getting into the oil.)

The oil should be ready for use.

Storage

Store it in a cool, dark place to prolong its shelf life.

NaHaZo tip

Hibiscus oil can be staining, so make sure that you properly secure your hair and protect your bedding whenever you use it in your treatment. Fenugreek oil is a great alternative without the staining!

Usage

This oil is great to use when your hair is in protective styling. Simply apply it to your scalp and then massage deeply, making sure you cover your entire head. You can use this every 2 – 3 days.

You can also use this in your hot oil treatment and rinse it out before conditioning your hair. It can also make a great addition to your hair mask. Wanna know more hair glossary terms?
