Natural Hair Style of the Week – Week Two

Our natural hairstyle of the week is a fun take on the high bun and can be used for several occasions.

Easy to style and also fun and elegant, this style can take you all the way from the classroom to a recital, and to any special occasion.

Profile: 3c hair

Length: Waist length stretched

1. What you need?

For this hairstyle, you will need:-

🌺6 colourful cotton ribbons

🌺1 Hair bun

Method

  • Section the hair into 2 parts, and then tie the back section with a ribbon.
  • Work on the front section first, plaiting the hair into 8 – 12 cornrows (depending on length).  Note that you do not need to plait the hair to the end, and can leave a portion of the hair out
  • Secure the base of each plait with a colourful ribbon and then twist the remaining hair, securing the end with a ribbon.
  • Once the front section is all plaited, untie the back section and gather all the hair into a ponytail.
  • Using the hair bun, tuck the hair around the buns into a crown and secure with a large ribbon.

And voila! All done, your protective styling is ready for a week of fun and play.

NaHaZo Tip: Use ribbons that do not snag or tangle around her hair. This makes it easier to detangle during takedown.

2. How long to install this hairstyle?

It should take you 20 – 30 minutes to complete, depending on the length of your child’s hair.

NaHaZo tipYou can add extensions to prolong the life of this hairstyle.

3. How long does this hairstyle last?

This is texture-dependent.

4c type hair tends to hold this hairstyle longer, and will not need to be refreshed as much as 3c hair.

Nonetheless, if your child is not swimming or in any active sports, she can rock this hairstyle for at least two weeks.

4. How do you refresh it?

This hairstyle is easy to refresh.

Depending on how busy you are, you can re-plait the cornrows and then detangle and spritz the bun. After this, this hairstyle is ready to go for another two weeks.

If you would like to switch up the look, you can add colourful beads to her hair, or braid the hair into a braided ponytail, rather than putting it back in a bun.

5. Salon or Mama’s hands?

Mama’s hands! 🙂

This hairstyle is easy to do and will allow for some bonding time with your little one. Also, NaHaZo is a big fan of Mama’s hands as this is a good time to teach your little one to care for her hair.

Children usually learn best by example, and so when she is older, she can transition to caring for her hair as she gets older.

Win-win for everyone!
