1. What do you need?

For this hairstyle, you will need:-

🌺6 colourful cotton ribbons.

Method

  1. Section her hair into 4 (you can section to 6 – 8 parts, depending on the length of her hair).
  2. Secure the base of her sectioned hair with a ribbon and then twist the hair neatly, securing the ends with a ribbon.
  3. Repeat this, until all her hair is in plaits and secured with a ribbon.

Voila! All done, your protective styling is ready for a week of fun and play.

NaHaZo Tip: Use ribbons that do not snag or tangle around her hair to reduce the ouch factor. This also makes it easier to detangle the hair during takedown.

2. Washed or Unwashed hair?

It is preferable to do this hairstyle on washed hair. But if you are pressed for time, you can freshen her hair with Tea Tree or Aloe Vera spritz.

Just make sure that the hair is properly detangled to ensure neat and pain-free sectioning of the hair.

3. How long to install this hairstyle?

It should take you between 15 – 20 minutes to complete, depending on whether the hair has been properly detangled.

It is a good idea to put on her favourite television program and give your child some snacks, to avoid the whiny commentary from the peanut gallery.

4. How long does this hairstyle last?

This depends on your child’s hair texture and the amount of activities she undertakes during the week.

If your child has fine 3 c hair, you may need to refresh this style mid-week, but it can last a whole week without you having to manipulate her hair if she is not very active.

5. Can you refresh it?

Absolutely!

This is one of NaHaZo’s go-to hairstyles for the busy mom.

Simply set aside time over the weekend to detangle each section and re-twist it and voila, you are done.

If the edges look a bit unkempt, you can always spritz this section, smoothen it with a simple DIY hair oil for naturals, and then brush it into style with a soft bristle brush.

This is a hairstyle that keeps on giving and you can use it as a protective style for a long time. Use beads or colourful ribbons at the end to switch up the look.

6. Salon or Mama’s Hands?

Mama’s hands!!!!

This hairstyle allows you to learn how to care for your child’s hair and also teach her what works and does not work for her hair.

Also being the frugal Mama, the extra pennies saved can be used for that mother-daughter outing.
