Rose Water for Hair

Rose water for hair is a DIY hack that smells good and is coupled with many other benefits.

It is definitely a win-win product to have in your regime.

*Psst…. while you are at it, set aside some petals to make our highly recommended Rose Oil for Hair

Why Rose Water is good for your hair?

🌺Rose water is a mild astringent. It therefore helps to remove excess oil and build-up that has accumulated on your scalp.

🌺Rose water also has anti-inflammatory properties and helps with alleviating an itchy and irritated scalp.

🌺Rose water tames frizz by laying hair cuticles flat, thus giving hair a smooth appearance.

🌺Rose water promotes hair growth by minimizing breakage/shedding, leading to length retention.

Recommended for

  • Itchy scalp, dry hair (in warm climates), and hair growth.

Preparation time

5 minutes

Ingredients

  • I/2 part rose water
  • X3 tablespoon of glycerine
  • X1 part water (preferably distilled water)
  • Spray bottle

Instructions

1. Pour the rose water into your applicator bottle.

2. Then add glycerine and water, and shake to mix.

It is then ready for use.

Storage

Rose water can be stored in your bathroom cabinet. You do not need to put it in the fridge, as this product has a long shelf life.

Negative effects of Rose Water on hair growth?

Rose water can be drying to hair, especially in a cold and dry climate. This is because the glycerine in the mixture is a humectant and thus draws water out of the hair.

To manage this effect in winter, rather use the spray on your scalp, and do NOT spray it on your hair strands.

Another hack to avoid the drying effect is to NOT use it as a leave-in conditioner, but rather include it in your pre-poo routine.

Usage

  1. Overnight rose water treatment – You use it in your overnight pre-poo treatment. Section your hair into 4 or more parts, spray it generously and then massage it into your hair from your roots to your ends. Wash and deep condition your hair the next day.
  2. Post-workout cleanser: Rose water is a great freshener for naturals that are physically active. You can use it to remove sweat and oil from your scalp, leaving your hair smelling sweet, and natural. This you can do by spraying rose water onto cotton wool and then dabbing it onto your scalp, working section by section. This helps to remove any build-up.
  3. Daily leave-in treatment – You can use rose water in your daily leave-in treatment to add moisture to your hair. Use it as the liquid in the LOC or LCO method.

NaHaZo tip

Do NOT use store-bought rose water directly on your hair. It is very drying – always add glycerine to balance out the dryness.

Challenge

Put your hair in a protective style for one and a half to two months.  Then use rose water on your hair every day, for 2 months to maximize your growth.

*Allergens

Make sure that you perform a patch test on your skin to rule out any allergies. People who are sensitive to pollen should buy store-bought rose water rather than make their own at home.
